Awareness on Architecture has grown multi-fold from the time I joined architecture till date. Many of us did not know what architecture is all about until we had some classes from teachers and mostly, seniors.
I still remember people asking me about the branch I joined in college after counselling and are very happy to acknowledge “Oh! Agriculture?? I see”; wherein we are stranded and disappointed, unable to explain them what architecture is all about. After 18 years of practice in the field of interior designing, we now have clients with some weird architectural solutions pushing the patience of the architects to their limits; the weirdest of it being the Vaastu Factor.
Having said that, the situation presents a wonderful solution to tackle clients with ease for an architect familiar with a few basics of local Vaastu. However, Vaastu is not a part of curriculum in many schools and yet a subject to be understood by architects for betterment in their professional practice. Therefore, this article is an attempt to share a bit of practical Vaastu planning tips, that the user group might be interested in; to tackle such awkward discussions with clients which generally do not end in the favour of architect.
These tips give some flexibility in design and scope for all that funda an architect might be interested to promote and yet satisfying the client's ego on the Vaastu Factor. They also give lot of confidence to push the designs on the client's terms without much alterations in the designs, saving lot of time and effort.
TIPS TO VAASTU PLANNING:
EACH BOX BELOW CAN BE CONSIDERED AS A SINGLE DWELLING UNIT/CELL (EG: BEDROOM / KTCHEN / TOILET ETC) OR A COMPLETE FLOOR. PLANNING CAN BE DONE ON SELECTING THE RESPECTIVE QUADRANTS AND ZONES.

DISCLAIMER: The views expressed below are purely personal and out of practical experiences and long debates with' Vaastu consultants' (without whose approval, many of my early projects wouldn't have taken shape). These tips are valid only for few regions and religions across the country. Hence user discretion is solicited.
